Members of the Council,



I have the honour to bring to your notice that the Government of ..........................................., in conformity with the decree of ................................. [1], declares its ratification of / accession to the two Protocols additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949 for the protection of war victims, adopted on 8 June 1977, namely:


· Protocol additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and
relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflict
(Protocol I);

· Protocol additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and
relating to the Protection of Victims of Non-International Conflicts (Protocol II).


I should be obliged if you would kindly bring the above to the notice of the States party to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949.

SUCCESSION TO THE FOUR GENEVA CONVENTIONS
OF 12 AUGUST 1949
AND THEIR TWO ADDITIONAL PROTOCOLS OF 8 JUNE 1977

The Government of ...................................... is honoured to inform the Swiss Federal Council that it considers itself, by virtue of succession, to be bound by the following treaties to which ................................. was Party:


1. Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and
Sick in Armed Forces in the Field, of 12 August 1949;

2. Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of Wounded, Sick
and Shipwrecked Members of Armed Forces at Sea, of 12 August 1949;

3. Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, of 12
August 1949;

4. Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of
War, of 12 August 1949;

5. Protocol additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and
relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts
(Protocol I), of 8 June 1977;

6. Protocol additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and
relating to the Protection of Victims of Non-International Armed Conflicts
(Protocol II), of 8 June 1977.

However, the Government of ............................................does ot maintain any of the reservations made to those treaties by .........................................and, therefore, considers itself bound by the said treaties without any reservation.

The Government of ..........................................declares that it recognizes ipso facto and without special agreement, in relation to any other High Contracting Party accepting the same obligation, the competence of the International Fact-Finding Commission to enquire into allegation by such other Party, as authorized by Article 90 of Protocol I.
