The ICRC in Sudan

The ICRC’s priorities in Sudan are to ensure that people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence receive emergency aid and enjoy the protection to which they are entitled under international humanitarian law (IHL). The ICRC provides water, food, shelter and medical care, and re-establishes contact between people separated by fighting.  Read full overview 

Facts and Figures

Since hostilities intensified in early April 2012 in the areas on the border shared by Sudan and South-Sudan, the ICRC has stepped-up its activities in the region.

  • The ICRC facilitated on 25 and 26 April 2012 the repatriation of 13 Sudanese prisoners of war from South-Sudan to Sudan.
  • The ICRC has donated surgical consumables, including wound-dressing materials, set splints and IV fluids, as well as drugs and other essential items to Muglad Civil Hospital in South Kordofan state.

The ICRC has 881 staff in Sudan, including 63 expatriates.
