Internships

The ICRC occasionally hires interns for specific posts that have been advertised.

Commissions/consultants

In some cases the ICRC commissions specific external competencies for the performance of specific tasks. It occasionally has recourse to consultants, who are given detailed instructions and objectives.

The ICRC works with external experts/consultants when:

  • it needs know-how in a specific field of expertise that is not available at the ICRC;
  • it has to have recourse to a methodological competence that is not required in the long term;
  • it needs an independent view that will broaden its own perspective of an issue.
    Research and information

    The ICRC makes numerous resources available to people who are interested in humanitarian action in conflicts and in international humanitarian law:
    • publications;
    • photos and audio visual material;
    • a database on humanitarian law;
    • historical archives.
    • The ICRC's Information and Documentation Centre (IDC)
