Haiti: building up a sustainable supply of water
On the occasion of World Water Day (22 March), the ICRC is highlighting some of its vital work to bring drinking water to the most vulnerable people in the world today. In Haiti, for example, access to water has slowly improved since the 12 January quake that devastated Port-au-Prince. The ICRC has installed water bladders and storage tanks all over the city, as well as establishing a partnership with the city's water board to promote more efficient and sustainable water distribution for the long term. Lionel Messi collects cheque on behalf of ICRC orthopaedic activities
On Wednesday evening, UEFA handed over a cheque for 100,000 euros to the FC Barcelona striker, Lionel Messi, just before the kick-off of the Champions League clash with VfB Stuttgart. The money will go towards the ICRC's limb-fitting and orthopaedic programme in Afghanistan. 17-3-2010 |
