After more than 20 years of fighting, peace is returning to Casamance. Tens of thousands of people are going back to the villages they fled because of the clashes between the Senegalese army and Casamance rebels. The ICRC, with the help of the Senegalese Red Cross Society, is focusing on water supply and health care. And, using local traditions as its starting point, it is also taking every opportunity to spread the humanitarian message.
