Section National implementation of international humanitarian law: specific rules on certain weapons International humanitarian law is a set of rules which seeks to limit the effects of armed conflict. It restricts the means and methods of warfare permitted to combatants and protects those who are not, or are no longer, taking part in fighting. Several instruments of international law were adopted to reduce the suffering caused by war. They require the adoption of national implementation measures. See also ratification kits and other pages relating to weapons on this site. Examples of national legislation on the use of certain weapons are available in the IHL - National implementation database. 30-11-2008 2008 Convention on Cluster MunitionsFact sheet describing the obligations of States regarding the national implementation of the norms contained in this particular instrument of international humanitarian law.
